Love to Cook?    Make Your Own!

Savory Option

Use store bought refrigerated dough and shape it into a great big heart. Or divide the dough into sections and give the kids each their own to make.  Beyond that, make it as you would any normal round shaped pizza. If working with pizza dough is more than you want to do, use pitas, bread or English muffins that you have trimmed (with scissors or a knife) into a heart shape. Don’t forget to carry the love theme even further and get out your mini heart cookie cutter. With that in hand you can even cut the pepperoni, pineapple or mushrooms… into little hearts too!

Sweet Pizza for Desert

Carry the pizza theme over into a sweet treat for dessert by taking sugar cookie dough and making one large sugar cookie heart shaped “pizza.” To do this you will need a batch of sugar cookie dough, 1 tub of red or pink frosting (that’s the pizza sauce), white sprinkles (the mozzarella cheese), and your choice of either sliced fresh strawberries or, as an alternative, red fruit leather that you cut into circles or hearts (both options are the pepperoni as you probably surmised).

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and put the rack in the middle position. On a 14 inch pie pan or regular cookie sheet, press the sugar cookie dough into a large heart shape as evenly as you can. Using the tines of a fork, poke holes across the dough so the heat can escape and you won’t have odd bulges and bubbles in your finished product.

Bake the cookie/”pizza” for about 15 minutes. Check it at 10 and rotate it 180 to help it cook evenly. When the edges are golden and the center still a tiny bit soft take it out and let it cool.  Once it is 100% cooled off you can add the other “pizza” ingredients and enjoy! (Pro Tip: I know the kids may have a hard time waiting but Don’t Put The Frosting On Too Soon or the warmth of the cookie will soften the frosting, making it runny.)

Enjoy!
