You may never have heard of this little neighborhood park but after a visit you will be glad you did. It is small but it also possesses a surprisingly long list of features making it a worthwhile play, relax or exercise destination for all ages.
Have Little Ones?
There’s a shaded playground that’s a good size, drinking fountains and the park is in a residential neighborhood with not too much street traffic on the roads nearby. There’s also a sidewalk that goes around the perimeter of the park, making a fun but manageable “track” if they have a little scooter or trainer bike they like using.
Older Ones?
There’s a large grassy area perfect for 2 or 3 people to play soccer, catch, Frisbee or just good old fashioned tag.Country Meadows Park has that same playground as mentioned above plus shaded (and lighted) full and half sized basketball courts.
Have a School Lesson involving sketching or the science of plants in the desert? There’s a very nicely maintained desert garden at the north end of the park.
For Adults and Teens
There are all of the aforementioned options but there are also 2 lighted pickleball courts and a tennis court. Because there are only 2 pickleball courts, which is not enough to support leagues, the courts don’t have hours when they are reserved. That’s a nice thing if you only play pickleball casually. The sidewalk that surrounds the park is about ⅓ of a mile (or close to 800 steps) in distance. If you want to get your steps & miles in as you push strollers or watch the kids play or meet up with a friend, you’re all set. Additionally, the park has a handful of exercise stations set out along the walkway if you are looking for a more full body workout.
Nearby
Want to enjoy a family picnic while visiting Country Meadows Park? There’s a McDonalds and sandwich place about 5 minutes away at Olive and 107th. That same shopping center area also has a CVS, Safeway and Great Cuts so you might be able to take care of some errands while you are in the neighborhood.
FYI
The park is right across the street from an elementary school so at afternoon release time it does become a bit crowded, especially for parking. The rest of the time there’s plenty of park and parking to share. There is a bathroom too. It’s pretty basic but maintained.
Country Meadows Park is a hidden gem that you and your children will really enjoy. It can be the destination or just a stop along the way to somewhere else you are headed. It’s located on N 111th (and Butler) between Olive and Northern, making it easy and convenient to reach. Active, outdoor playtime is so important and beneficial for kids and families. I hope you have the chance to explore this perfect little park with your family!
